Summer's End

It's almost Labor Day weekend, and I swear I don't know where this summer went. Between that week with the National Concert, Napa, and then Florida and international travel and now, I really don't remember where the last three months have gone. We have a beautiful new nephew, went down to South Padre and visited Jamaica, again. I went to Montana. We had a 4th of July in Onancock. Beth visited. Steve brought home lots of Port. A friend, Elizabeth, is moving away. I watched House of Cards and read several books. We celebrated our neighbors' 30th birthdays. And we saw fireworks, twice.

Summer kind of began with the block party and ends with the triathalon/start of the football season, I think. Or maybe the H Street Festival, at least officially. And now it will be Fall. Cooler weather, pumpkin, football Sundays, fantasy football drafts, and other things to look forward to.

But it means longer nights. And other less fun things, too.

Anticipation

July is going to be a crazy month.

There's the family visit and 4th of July next week. Soooo excited for nephew Joey to come! And then the SLC and trips to Miami and Philly.  And then TX and South Padre and beach time.  And Uganda. And then our 4th anniversary, a trip to LA, a weekend in Cincinnati, and then it'll practically be Labor Day.  Where did the summer go? And the craziness starts this week with Obamacare. Yeah, because that is all connected.

I have big plans for the Fall, too, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. I really need to savor the moments.

Mid August Boredom

Things are slooow in the office, and I admit that my motivation is at a low point.  Earlier, I had really hoped that we would be on vacation right now. It's four months away until Jamaica, although the flights are booked.  We might take off early tomorrow and/or Friday, as Steve's latest paper is done.

So here are five things keeping me somewhat occupied...

The new music blog.
Looking for good enchilada recipes.
Mark Steyn's new book, After America.
Figuring out what we need to buy for the house
Trying not to snack too much...been very snackie lately.

Falling into Fall....

What I will remember about this summer:

The Heat.
St. Lucia.
Detroit in May.
Lots of work travel.
Getting our new furniture.

What I am looking forward to this Fall:

Cooler temperature.
Julie's wedding.
A quieter house.
Getting my laptop fixed, or unfortunately, replaced.
Staying home.
And a sixth item...the new TV season. Yes, I am an incurable romantic and I am SO happy about Huddy on House. Love House. Love Cuddy. Love their sexy scenes and witty banter. And "I lobe you" is so "I glove you," right??!!

Sigh. At least I can look forward to seeing Donna tonight!

Shorter Nights

I took a peek outside around 7:30 and I noticed that the sun was already setting. Boo. I guess we're almost at the equinox, and the sun rises later and sets sooner. I hate it being dark so early. I like the evenings to run. I guess if anything will get me out of bed early, at least for a bit, it will be that fact. Though sheesh, where did the summer go?

It's Labor Day, and I'm tired of laboring. I did my Lincoln run, for the second time this weekend, despite the blisters. Boo to that. I did a little shopping, saw Steve at work, and read some of Empire of Liberty. Watching some of the very entertaining VA Tech vs. Boise. I do not want to go to work tomorrow.

Where did the summer go? We went to St. Lucia, in the most over-hyped vacation ever. Saw both of our nephews. I traveled more than I care to remember, from Chicago to NY to Connecticut to Miami to NC to San Francisco to San Diego. I forget when and where, it all blurs together. And Toronto is this weekend, which seems like the real end of the summer for me. Because football is starting, and then we have weddings and other Fall things to anticipate.

And early evenings, though lower temperatures, and races to run and pumpkin and apple to replace berries and melons. I haven't had an apple in forever. I am going to miss watermelon. I ate a lot of it this summer.

And schedule adjustments to make. Because summer is ending.

Mid-summer

It's already mid-July and that means it's half way to Labor Day, half-way to Memorial Day. The summer is flying by and there are things going on virtually ever week between now and September. Work trips, Texas, visits with friends, hopefully an end of summer trip to see Donna. It has been so hot out that in a way, I'm already ready for Fall. It's hot and humid and uncomfortable. We've had a brief respite the last couple of days with slightly cooler temps because of the storms. But still...stickiness and it's in the 90s nearly every day. Pony tail weather, really.

I love the long nights and I hated the winter storms that kept us cooped up. But I crave days where the high is 80 and it can be in the 70s when I run at night. It's been bearable these last two days, and I know it will only go up.

We had St. Lucia, but in other ways, it hasn't felt like summer. No barbeques or movies. But as much as I want it to hurry, it can slow down. Already slow down.

Summer

It's officially summer and hotter than hell out. I am hoping to adjust my running to 90+ degree days, not to mention high humidity, and lots of sun. Back last winter, when we had ridiculous amounts of snow, we missed this. Funny how your perspective changes. I guess I am just happy I can drive to the gym or the grocery store as opposed to hiking through a ton (literally) of snow.

We leave for St. Lucia in 8 days. Summer vacation is another reason to anticipate the season. This is what else I like about summer:

--skirts and dresses
--fresh produce, particularly berries!
--lots of daylight
--the 4th of July
--traveling for fun
--frozen yogurt
--bright colors
--less new tv, which means more time for reading
--more relaxed days at work, because the lawyers are on vacation
--Congressional recess, which means less traffic
--our second anniversary in less than six weeks
