Who Will Stop the Rain?

I don't remember why it rained so much in 06, but I won't forget the non-stop deluge of June 2015. From freaky late night thunderstorms, to sudden inches, to three inches of rain on Saturdays....Insanity. Check out this post.

Yes, I'm a weather groupie. I just hate how it stresses me out. Ugh.

Polar Vortex Forever and Travel

Is it never going to be Spring? Because after 48 hours in warm LA weather and a tease of the 40s earlier today, back to the teens it goes. And even though this month is flying by, this damn frigid won't go away. So frustrating.

The trip to CA was good. I finally saw "Enough Said," and both Julia Louis Dreyfus and James Gadolfini were so good. So great. And Bono's daughter played Tess! She was gorgeous. It was good to see friends and to have a few decent meals, but man am I tired. And starving...been snacking all day. I just need to make it through yoga.

Scenes from a Snowstorm

The Washington Post recaps yesterday's blizzard.

I am anticipating 80 degrees in southern California this week. So help me. I am so done with winter.

It is 18 degrees right now. UGH.

Bye Bye Polar Vortex

I really hate winter, and anything associated with deep freezes, lots of snow, frozen pipes, and bursts. So good riddance to the single digit temperatures, negative windchill, and ice of the last week. I am already ready for Spring, which is by far the best season. Flowers, longer days, blue skies, cherry blossoms, and increased warmth gets my two thumbs up. Maybe if it gets to 120 degrees again, maybe I will think differently. But not after this week, and the grief and Russia sickness it has brought.

Good riddance, polar vortex. Won't want to see you again.

Super Storm Sandy

Some of the photographs of the carnage waged by Sandy are just incredible.

Some of these before and after shots say it all.

The waters will recede, the subways will reopen, and life will go back to a new normal.

But images like these tell you that there is a long way to go before all of that happens.

The Coming Storm

I guess this title can refer to the Frankenstorm coming: It's the worst storm in a century! Or the election. Obama's firewall of Wisconsin is coming down.

Or it could come to the disaster befalling the Tigers unless they win. One fan is ready to offer their home for World Series tickets. Ah, Detroit.

The storm could be a $500 trillion tax cut (thanks, Bidenism!) that is threatening our fiscal stability. It could really be anything.

To the weekend...

DC Derecho

Everyone in DC is now familiar with the term "derecho" after this past weekend's destructive storms that left hundreds of thousands of homes without power. In triple digit heat, that is not fun (see Pepco on Twitter).

The month started memorably, and family will be here soon. There's the 4th of July this week. Then possibly Miami and Philly. Then Texas. Then Uganda. Then ordinary time? Well, a visit to Cincinnati. And I will have a chance to congratulate my brother & Megan in person. Baby. Wow.

We went to the DC United game this weekend.  It was nice to have some time on our own. And then we spent time watching the pathetic 4-0 trouncing of Italy via Spain in the Euros finale before getting sucked into the Olympic trials. Those athletes are so amazing to me. Has it really been 4 years since the last one? Beijing?

Here is hoping for a a great July. At least my clean new contact lens are here and I can see!!!

Seventy

At 3:41pm, today, February 1, it is 70 degrees out.  Ahhh...

It is no secret that I dislike winter. I loathe snow, ice, and most of all, darkness. I miss the days of running after work, not wearing layers, and not being fearful that nasty wintery nastiness would keep me housebound. Or burst a pipe.

That being said, I don't like the 110 degree weather we had last winter. I would be happy with 50s throughout February, 60s and 70s through May, and then a warm summer.

Now if the groundhog could just do its thing tomorrow...

Scary

1. John Steele Gordon wrote this column describing exactly what our debt is, how large it is and why, and how it is ballooning out of control.
2. My toe. I can't believe I ran into a couch and probably broke it. I am going through running withdrawals. Perhaps I can look at this as an opportunity to do some yoga and bike, which I am pathetic at.
3. What the media tried to represent with Irene. Yes, there are some areas facing devastating flooding. But the world continues to turn, and frankly, no pun intended, there coverage was overblown. But what covered poor Tucker Barnes, yes, that is scary.

Tucker Barnes and the Slime

This pretty much sums up the Hurricane Irene coverage. Nasty sludgey bacteria-infected foam.  EWW.
