Royal Baby

I don't know why this makes me ridiculously excited, but Princess Kate is in labor!

I think there is so much bad news in the world. Babies are joyful and happy and are greeted with so much love, and this one certainly will. And speculation is that she's having a girl, but we shall see. Updated later!

Update: It's a BOY!! (or as Drudge reports...a king!!!!)

Shocking! Not So Much...

I see Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are getting divorced.  There have been rumors about this since about five minutes after he jumped up and down on that stupid couch on Oprah. And rumors especially since they have not been seen together in months. It is always her and Suri, alone.

Some celebrity magazine had a spread the other week about "long-lasting" celebrity marriages that are all like a decade long. Most involve one part of the couple who have been divorced. I know I've written about this, but there are so few who make it for the long haul.

Marriage is tough, and it seems even tougher for multi-millionaires who have already been divorced a couple of times previously.

People calls the divorce "shocking."

It's not.  It was utterly predictable. Her contract ran out.  Most skeptics noted that she had about a seven year contract, and the couple became engaged in June 2005.  You do the math. And expect her to rejoin the Catholic Church soon, too.

Everyone in Hollywood is pregnant....

Natalie Portman, Alicia Silverstone, Kate Hudson, Jewel, Selma Blair, Tia Mowry, Jane Krakowski, Victoria Beckham, and Marion Cotillard are among those who have announced pregnancies in the past week or so.

Ask me I feel bittersweet about this? A group of people with three married couples amongst the single ladies?

Yes, I am. And I think of Alicia Silverstone, who is about my age, and I feel bittersweet in starting to wonder if it will ever happen for me.

I used to think I'd be satisfied if X happened. But there is always Y lurking. And I hate that, I hate being jealous and I have not knowing. I should be practicing the true spirit of gratitude that I preach. But oh is it tough.

Baby Baby

So lately, with the sheet number of new moms and moms-to-be that I know, babies are on the brain. I've lost track of who is pregnant, who just had a baby, and who will probably be pregnant with #2 before not too much longer. And I'm okay with that. Really, I am. But six months from now, maybe I won't be as okay with it. Maybe not even three months from now.

I worry it will or will not happen. I worry that people will think there is something wrong with me. I worry I will be letting the grandparents down, or that I'm a poseur or hiding. I worry I am getting too old, or I will be too old before long. And I worry that I really can't have one.

Holding little Blake, I could almost close my eyes and think that maybe one day, that will be my baby in my arms. So soft and small and so doted upon. Even if you're tired. Even if you are poor. Even if you just want to give up one day but know you can't.

I worry that pregnancy will even be passe, that all of the now moms will not care about infants at that stage. And I worry that I worry about being current and trendy.

You worry about children far before they are even here, don't you?

Celebrity Baby Time

So I know I have blogged before on the culture of celebrity unwed mommies. Now many of them are having kids: Nicole Richie, Poppy Montgomery, Helena Bonham Carter, etc. Stories about Courtney Thorne-Smith, Toni Collette, and Christina Aguilera delivering kind of even things out. Other married pregnant celebs like Melissa Joan Hart, Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, and J-Lo (despite the past marriages) balance out the Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, Monica, Lily Allen, and that chick from Law & Order. I have to say I was irked that both issues of In Style feature unwed celeb mommies to be. Come on!

I guess I should not make sweeping generalizations. But it bothers me!

Pregnant in Hollywood

So yes, I am totally obsessed with Celebrity Baby Blog. Maybe it's just that little part of me with the maternal urges kicking through, but I think a lot of it is the cute fashion babies have and the gossipy-nature of figuring out how Hollywood families live though.

But with Halle Berry's recent announcement that she is three months pregnant, it struck me how few celebrity babies are born to parents who are married. The news just made a big deal of Michelle & Heath's breakup, but they never got married. And whether it's Drea de Matteo and Scooter Jennings, Nicole & Joel, Scott Baio and Renee Sloan, Brangelina, Tobey Maguire and Jen Meyer (who JUST got married), Poppy Montgomery & her bfriend, Bridget Moynihan & Tom Brady, Naomi & Liev, Salma Hayek & her fiance, Jaime Pressly & her fiance, who is married??? I guess Gavin & Gwen did it the traditional way. Ironically, the biggest cover-up involves happily married Christina Aguilera & Jordan Bratman!! Of course there are others, but all of the headlines are generated by those who are so happy to have a baby together but totally oppose marriage.

I guess it's better than the alternative, right? :)
